Gramps turned 90 this month. Did you hear me? NINETY. So, I thought that merited a cake. Hand formed fondant figure and number. Red velvet cake with cream cheese icing and chocolate ganache topping.
I used to do fun cakes for family and friends. Then my sister and I decided it would be fun to quit our jobs and go into business. So then we owned and operated a wedding cake bakery called Piece of Cake Bakery, and we did too many wedding cakes for our liking. (I'm not sure of our logic on that one.) So now I just do fun cakes for family and friends. I don't cover cakes in fondant, because I think fondant tastes disgusting, it's too expensive to always be doing that, and it takes a lot less skill than I have to offer. So I keep fondant to a minimum, knowing that if you're anything like me, you're going to want to pull it off before you eat the real food. Because food, especially cake, should taste good.
